Conferences

Oakland Reads Annual Conference: Oakland, California’s premiere annual conference for stakeholders in the education sector. This one-day event welcomes policymakers, executive directors, and other sector leaders for collaboration and learning. I led event planning and execution for this conference for 3 consecutive years from 2014-2016.

My role:

  • Design, plan, and project manage event

  • Select venue and liaise with site staff

  • Pre-event communications and attendee outreach

  • Manage on-site logistics and staff

  • Develop social media engagement strategy

  • Post-event evaluation and recommendations

Results:

  • Sold out attendance for audience of 300+ each year

  • 100% attendees rating “satisfied” or “highly satisfied” with overall experience


Professional Meetings & Seminars

Oakland’s flagship coalition of 60+ nonprofit organizations hosts a series of monthly meetings for stakeholders aimed at informing, mobilizing, and engaging members. I ran operations and programming for these events from 2013-2016.

My role:

  • Lead project management and logistics for all events

  • Based on participant feedback, create additional streams of programming such as peer learning groups, volunteer days, and professional networking opportunities

  • Design meetings for interaction and audience participation

  • Lead publicity and social strategy for all events.

Results:

  • Consistent attendance by 75-100% of member organizations on a monthly basis

  • Programming sufficiently robust to support the creation of an independently functioning organization



Brand Activations

Products such as Whole Foods Market’s biannual, exclusive ice cream flavors require buzz-worthy premieres to maintain their cult favorite status and generate sales. I executed the public launch of the 2017 holiday flavor at that year’s San Francisco Street Food Festival, serving 9,000+ local foodies, influencers, and press.

My role:

  • Develop interactive sampling experience

  • Manage Graphic Designer through development of creative assets

  • Liaison to festival staff

  • Manage on-site logistics and staffing

  • Social media content creation and strategy

Results:

  • #1 flavor in ice cream category sales October-December 2017

  • Over 150,000 digital reach


Trade Shows & Conventions

The University of California, Berkeley provides approximately 12 on-campus recruiting events per semester, providing an opportunity for employers and recruiters to interact with students and alumni. I staffed 12 of these events in a 4-month period in 2007.

My role:

  • Provide customer service for employer registration process

  • Prepare all printed materials and other collateral for students and employers

  • Liaise with venue staff to ensure event space is prepared according to specifications

  • Manage incoming and outgoing shipments of booths and other marketing collateral

  • On-site staffing and logistical support

Results:

  • Consistent participation buy 110 employers (maximum capacity for venue) per event

  • Attendance by 1,000+ students per event



Influencer partnerships

Whole Foods Market partnered with author Laura Izumigawa to host a book tour for the launch of her book. In 2017 I developed and executed an SOP for her in-store book signing events, complemented by a social giveaway done in collaboration with the author.

My role:

  • Develop event structure and management guidelines for replication at stores across the country

  • Develop and execute social media strategy

  • Design event flow for seamless experience for both the author and attendees

  • Serve as event emcee and on-site event manager

  • Relationship and partnership management with author

Results:

  • Sold out attendance for audience of 120 after only 1 day of ticket sales.

  • 75,000+ social media engagement


Exchange Programs

I have staffed 2-week long exchange programs for both professionals and students. At the Center for Safe Energy, I welcomed 3 cohorts of 15 Ukrainian and Russian environmental professionals in 2006. At the Global Young Leaders Conference, I welcomed 4 cohorts of 300+ high school students from around the world in 2007.

My role:

  • Plan site visits, activities, and experiences focusing on activism, community impact, and cultural interaction

  • Manage all logistics for participants (airport arrival and departures, bus transportation, medical/dietary needs, etc.)

  • Facilitate conversations and group discussions

Results:

  • Over 90% participant satisfaction, leading to year over year increased enrollment
